Renewal of License

The social work certifications and licenses in Wyoming expire every other year based on the holder’s birthday. To renew it, submit the application form to the licensing board before the expiration date.

During each renewal period, you need to complete at least 45 hours of continuing education that contributes to your professional knowledge and is taught by someone with a graduate degree.

Continuing education is an important part of renewing your social worker license. The idea is you do not stagnate in your knowledge and methodology. New research comes out every day that highlights new and more effective techniques. The goal of the licensing board is to ensure all social workers, new and old, have the correct level of knowledge to perform their duties to the best of their abilities.

The licensing board does not provide a list of continuing education providers. You will need to find what fits your needs. To ensure that the course is approved, you can view the rules and criteria through the licensure board website.

If you have questions or clarifications about your social worker license application, you can contact the Wyoming Mental Health Professions Licensing Board by calling (307) 777-3628. You can also send an email to wyomhplb@wyo.gov.
