Purpose for the scholarship To provide financial support to the minority individuals intending to pursue their careers as a preschool, elementary or secondary school teacher.
Requirements to qualify? Applicants must be a U.S citizen or an eligible non-citizen; must be a resident of Illinois; must be either a African American/Black, Hispanic American, Asian American or of Native American origin, or a qualified bilingual minority applicant; must be a high school graduate, or hold a General Educational Development certificate; must be enrolled at least on a part-time basis as an undergraduate or graduate student; must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment at a qualified Illinois institution of higher education in a course of study which, upon completion, qualifies to be certified as a preschool, elementary or secondary school teacher by the Illinois State Board of Education, including alternative teacher certification; must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale; must maintain a satisfactory academic progress as determined by the college; must comply with federal Selective Service registration requirements.
