Purpose for the scholarship To recognizes an noted astrophysicist who worked with USRA through the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and NASA Headquarters.
Requirements to qualify? Applicants must be full-time undergraduate students attending a four-year accredited college or university that offers courses leading to a degree in science or engineering; must be within two years of earning a B.S. in a field of science and engineering, including life science and science education by the time the award is received; applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or greater; applicants must be US citizens or lawful permanent residents; previous USRA scholarship winners are not eligible; non-US students attending USRA Member Universities located outside the United States are also eligible to apply; applicants must be citizens of the country in which the university is based.
Selection criteria among applicants Selection will be based on the following criteria demonstrated or expressed interest in space research and/or space science education; student essay, both in its reflection of students interest and its writing quality; letters of recommendation; academic standing (minimum required cumulative GPA of 3.50); as needed, school and community activities may be used to distinguish otherwise equally qualified candidates.
