Purpose for the scholarship
To improve and enhance the quality of life in the Tri-Cities area by serving as a leader, catalyst and resource for philanthropy; to strive for community improvement through strategic grantmaking in such fields as arts, education, health, environment, youth, social services and other human needs.

Requirements to qualify?
Applicants must be planning to attend Amherst College within 30 months of high school graduation; those who will be attending one of the top ten colleges or universities (based in the current year US News and World Report) will be considered if no Amherst applicant is available; also available to graduates of Spring Lake high school who have been a student for three semesters immediately prior to graduation and who have attended SLHS for atleast three years.

Selection criteria among applicants
Recipients are selected based on demonstrated academic excellence and financial need.
