To provide financial assistance to PhD students from developing countries for them to conduct innovative, development-related, PhD research under the supervision of a research advisor at a host institution abroad.
Applicants must be a national of a World Bank member developing country; must not be a dual citizen of a developed country that is not a World Bank member; must be currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program in a World Bank member country; must have completed all course work and exam requirements for Ph.D. at the time of application; must have a master’s degree or equivalent; must be 35 years old or younger; must not be an Executive Director, Executive Director’s alternate staff, or consultant of the World Bank Group (the World Bank, International Finance Corporation, International Development Association, Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, and International Center for Settlement of Investments Disputes) or have any relatives or in-laws who are employed by the World Bank Group in any capacity, including consulting; must not previously been the recipient of the World Bank Robert S. McNamara Fellowship; and must be accepted as a visiting scholar for a period of six to ten months by a university or research center in a World Bank member country other than the applicants’ home country.
Selection will be based on the committee’s criteria.
